The Westfjords Way ITT (2024)

Official rules of attempting an ITT of the Westfjords Way in 2024

The Westfjords Way is a route that spans 1,000 kilometers around the Westfjords. It was published in 2021 by Chris Burkard with the help of Lael Wilcox, Rue Kaladyte, Payson McElveen, Nichole Baker, Evan Ruderman and Thrainn Kolbeinsson.

The ITT of the route is a modification of the published route to include more gravel sections. The official route of 2024 with noted resupply can be seen here:

The route does not include opening hours, lodging or camping options. That is at the responsibility of the rider to determine.

The Fjord Hub is the curator of the ITT, but assumes no legal responsibility of any ITT attempt. Riders are at their own risk.

The following rules apply:

  • Time starts with a time-stamped selfie at the front door of the Fjord Hub (located at Aðalstræti 20, Ísafjörður)
  • There are 10 designated picture points where a time-stamped selfie must be taken and submitted to the curator (8 shown on the route, 2 detailed below).
  • The Drangsnes circle may be completed clockwise or counterclockwise.
  • At least 1 waffle must be consumed on route during public opening hours of an establishment. A time-stamped selfie must be submitted.
  • You must complete the entire GPS track and submit a recorded GPS track.
  • You must fill up one water bottle in the river at Dynjandi and submit a time-stamped selfie.
  • You must notify the curator of any ITT attempts and submit a GPS tracker link.
  • The official opening time of the ITT is after the third Sunday in June through the end of July. Attempts may extend past July if started in July.
  • Time stops when you enter the water from the pier jump in Ísafjörður.
