discover iceland beyond the well-travelled ring road on a six-day winter photography expedition through the breathtaking westfjords. from the remote fishing town of ísafjörður to the vibrant streets of reykjavík, this carefully crafted journey takes you through some of iceland’s most dramatic and least-visited landscapes, where snow-covered mountains, rugged coastlines, frozen waterfalls, and geothermal hot springs provide endless photographic inspiration.
designed for photographers of all experience levels, this small-group adventure is led by local experts who know the region intimately. rather than following a rigid itinerary, each day is shaped by the weather, light, and road conditions, allowing us to be in the right place at the right time. whether we’re capturing the soft glow of sunrise over a quiet fjord, exploring abandoned shipwrecks, photographing authentic fishing villages, or standing beneath the thunderous dynjandi waterfall, every stop is chosen with photography in mind.
throughout the expedition you’ll make the most of iceland’s ever-changing conditions. there will also be opportunities to photograph wildlife, dramatic coastal scenery, geothermal pools, history, and everyday life in remote communities. as darkness falls, we’ll monitor aurora forecasts and, when conditions allow, head out in search of the northern lights beneath some of the darkest skies in iceland.
beyond the photography, this is an opportunity to experience iceland as few visitors do. relax in natural hot springs overlooking the ocean, meet local fishermen and farmers, explore hidden corners of the westfjords, and travel with guides whose local knowledge opens doors to experiences unavailable on typical tours.

day 1 – monday, march 29, 2027: bolungarvík
meet your guides in ísafjörður before heading to the fishing village of bolungarvík. depending on weather and conditions, we’ll choose from a variety of photography locations and activities, including coastal landscapes, mountain viewpoints, and local landmarks. we’ll finish the day with an optional guided sauna ritual in hnifsdalur before returning to ísafjörður for dinner and our first night’s stay.

day 2 – tuesday, march 30, 2027: ísafjörður & dýrafjörður
today we travel south through the spectacular westfjords, stopping whenever the light and scenery present great photographic opportunities. we’ll visit þingeyri and gain an insight into life in a traditional icelandic fishing village before returning to ísafjörður for dinner.

day 3 – wednesday, march 31, 2027: ísafjörður to patreksfjörður
we leave ísafjörður and journey toward patreksfjörður, stopping at some of the westfjords’ most iconic locations along the way. depending on conditions, highlights may include dynjandi waterfall, the ba-64 shipwreck, rauðisandur beach, and natural hot springs. after a full day of exploring and photography, we’ll settle into patreksfjörður for the evening.

day 4 – thursday, april 1, 2027: patreksfjörður to vogur
today we continue through the southern westfjords, photographing dramatic coastlines, geological formations, and remote landscapes. we’ll make our way to vogur country lodge, a peaceful retreat overlooking the fjord, with opportunities to meet locals and experience authentic rural iceland.

day 5 – friday, april 2, 2027: vogur to reykjavik
our final day takes us out of the westfjords and toward reykjavík. along the way we’ll visit sites such as eiríksstaðir, guðrúnarlaug, and the grabrok volcanic crater, depending on weather and road conditions. we’ll arrive in reykjavík in the evening, where the expedition concludes with one final overnight stay.

day 6 – saturday, april 3, 2027: departure
after breakfast, the tour comes to an end. guests are free to continue exploring reykjavík or transfer to keflavík international airport for their onward journey.

- guests are responsible for arranging transportation to ísafjörður before the tour begins.due to easter weekend, there are no domestic flights from reykjavík to ísafjörður on sunday, march 28. please plan your travel accordingly.
- we recommend arriving in ísafjörður before the tour starts to avoid travel delays.
- guests are encouraged to arrive early and experience aldrei fór ég suður, ísafjörður’s annual free music festival, taking place on march 26-27, 2027.
- this is a small-group expedition with a maximum of seven guests, allowing for a more personal experience and individual photography guidance.
- the itinerary is flexible and may change due to weather, road conditions, daylight, or photographic opportunities.
- each evening, weather permitting, we will monitor aurora forecasts and head out in search of the northern lights.
